SCOTTISH GOVERNMENT TURNS BACK ON LOCAL DEMOCRACY

Turnbull high visit to Ann Frank exhibit On Wednesday 27th January pupils from

visit the Scottish Parliament to view the
Anne Frank Exhibition organised by the
Anne Frank Trust UK. At the parliament the
pupils were joined by their MSP David
Whitton
on the tour of the exhibition.
David Whitton MSP said: "It's vitally important the pupils take part in
exhibitions like this. We must ensure that our links to the past such as
detailed in the Anne Frank exhibition are preserved for future generations."

Daft or what?
The draft Cycling Action Plan for Scotland, asks as part of its consultation:
Q10. Should all road users pay road tax?
If so, how much should it be for cyclists and how could it be enforced?
Strathkelvin & Bearsden MSP David Whitton has branded Scottish Government
plans for a road tax on cyclist as ‘idiotic’.

David Whitton MSP congratulates regional prize winner of Enterprising Student Award

David Whitton with Walter LawA local student has reached the final stages of prestigious national awards which recognise the ambition and business skills of students and young graduates.
Walter Law from Cumbernauld College has won the West region prize in the Enterprising Students Awards 2009, sponsored by Scotland’s Colleges and the Federation of Small Businesses.
The awards are designed to identify and reward students and recent graduates who have put their academic knowledge to practical use by starting their own businesses.
Walter went into the glazing industry when he left school, but at the beginning of 2006 he decided to wanted a career change and with the encouragement of his wife started looking at the possibilities of computer work.
Cumbernauld College advised him on a Computer Engineering course that suited his aptitudes and he completed it with good grades, before going on to find himself a part-time placement with a small computer shop in Kirkintilloch.
Walter took the plunge and bought the business, quitting his full-time job to become a self-employed computer shop owner.
He took on an employee and went back to Cumbernauld College, both he and his technician passing the Microsoft Certified Desktop Support Technician course.
“The college has been really helpful throughout, always willing to help.”
Besides local work through the shop, Walter has also gained a contract with John Lewis, helping to install customer-bought computers, and is still looking to the future, enrolling himself and his technician in next year’s Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer course.
Strathkelvin & Bearsden MSP David Whitton recently visited Walter at his new shop and commented:
“congratulations to Walter, he has showed great determination and that its never to late change career, he’s now his own boss and I hope he goes on to win.”
Colleges throughout Scotland were asked to nominate suitable candidates for the Awards and give details of their businesses, how they had demonstrated their entrepreneurial flair while at college and why they deserve to win.

Thanks to your efforts and interest the Scottish Prison Service has listened to the views of the people and are to keep the name HMP Low Moss for the new prison.

I was informed by the Kirkintilloch Herald that the SPS has written to the North Glasgow Justice Group confirming their decision.

I would like to thank you for taking the time and trouble to correspond with me on this issue and it is nice to know the occasionally “People Power” can lead to a victory for common sense.

Yours sincerely
