Gregg is 31 and a Cumbernauld man from
Kildrum. The former Cumbernauld High School pupil currently teaches
history at Oxford University. Gregg has been active in the party for many years
and has penned speeches for Dr John Reid.
He said: "I'm pleased. It is great to have the trust of
local members - especially as I am from Cumbernauld and know
so many of the people involved. At the same time I don't feel
I can take anything for granted and will campaign on issues relating
to social justice".
After winning a scholarship to the University of Pennsylvania
he has been based in Oxford since his return. "Although
I have lived there for years, I have never really considered
Oxford my home - it's Cumbernauld. In that very Scottish way".
Rosemary McKenna said: "I am absolutely delighted that Gregg
has been selected to fight the Cumbernauld, Kilsyth and Kirkintilloch East
Westminster Parliamentary seat for the Labour Party. He will
work with the local party till the General Election to build
on the 11,000 plus majority we achieved at the last election".
